About

Kat Drysdale is an artist based in Bath, UK, primarily creating expanded sculpture and installation. Using motifs abstracted from overlooked everyday objects, she softens and decorates these traditionally functional, industrial-feeling items to draw attention to them in a playful but uncanny way. A colour palette inspired by iridescence captures hues from shifting light, reflecting the fast-paced nature of contemporary society.Working with found materials and selected traditional materials, she uses their qualities to explore the expansion of sculpture through light, shadow and movement. This approach reflects themes of impermanence, as well as the shallow nature of many of our interactions with the physical world. Combining contrasting materials emphasises the physical qualities of her materials, drawing attention to their presence and tactility. While inspired by Minimalist concerns around space, scale, material, and the relationship of the viewer’s body to the work, she subverts these traditions through colour and visibly handmade elements.Passionate about the accessibility of art and its power to make a change on personal and societal levels, her practice is underpinned by concerns around 21st-century alienation, aiming to create feelings of curiosity and physical awareness through audience interaction that leads to connection with the self and the world around us.
